Fundamental Safety Every Hotels Should have

May 17, 2024

Ensuring hotel security is just as important as managing the hotel itself, and it's a crucial aspect that shouldn't be overlooked. Whether it's a boutique or chain hotels, a good hotel should have various security measures in place as specified in the Ministry of Interior's regulations for hotel business types and criteria.

It's not only the responsibility of hotels to ensure the safety of their guests but also of their staff. Therefore, every hotel should have a security team in place to prevent property damage, including furniture and equipment.

Hotel security can be divided into two main types: internal and external hotel security. Additionally, there are equipment and hotel management programs that can help enhance security standards.

1. Fire Alarm/Smoke Detection System: This is the most critical safety feature of a hotel. This system alerts people in the building in case of a fire or smoke.

2. Access Control System (ACS): This security measure controls access to different points within the hotel, usually through ID cards or key card scanners at various points.

3. Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV): CCTV systems help monitor and prevent potentially dangerous events, especially in areas such as guest rooms, corridors, and parking lots.

4. Vehicle Security System: This involves monitoring all vehicles parked at the hotel, including those belonging to guests and staff, to prevent theft or vandalism. For instance, automatic barrier gates and parking passes. These are safety devices often paired with parking lots to control access and record vehicle entries and exits, enhancing overall security.

5. Lift Safety: Lifts in hotels should be monitored to ensure that only authorized individuals access them, preventing damage or theft.

6. Guest Property Security: Hotels should ensure that guests' personal belongings are safe and provide personal safes in guest rooms. These safes can be centralized or located in individual rooms, and guests can set their own codes.

7. Equipment Security: This involves maintaining and securing all equipment both inside and outside the hotel premises to prevent damage or hazards to guests and staff.

8. Hotel Data Security: Ensuring hotel data security is also crucial, involving protecting data stored on hotel computer systems and networks. This includes controlling and monitoring access to information resources such as databases, networks, servers, and computers. Because both hotel and guest data are highly valuable and cannot be allowed to leak out, Data privacy is considered one of the top priorities of Hotels.

Also, It's essential to have backup power sources for emergencies, such as batteries or generators, separate from the main power system, capable of automatically switching on when the main power supply fails.
