Believe it or not, most of us feel a bit lost when we travel abroad for the first time. We might not know where to go or how to travel without getting lost. That's why finding a tour guide can make our trip easier and much more fun. Not only traveling aboard, some places within the country also have tour guides as well. But what do we call these "tour guides"? Sometimes they're called guides or tour leaders. Let's explain what they do and how they're different.
Guides or Local Guides: These are people who show tourists around their local area. They take tourists to different attractions and explain the history, culture, and way of life there. There are two types:
1.InBound: These guides show foreign tourists around Thailand.
2.Domestic: These guides show Thai tourists around within Thailand.
Tour Leaders: These are the people who lead tours. They take Thai tourists on trips outside of Thailand (Outbound) and handle everything for them from the Thai airport until they return. Tour leaders have to coordinate and translate between local guides who don't speak Thai and Thai tourists. They also explain the history, culture, and way of life of the country they're visiting and make the trip enjoyable for tourists while they're on the bus. They also have to take care of the tourists and ensure they get all the benefits listed in their itinerary.
Both of these positions require a tour guide license obtained through an examination. Now that you know the difference, you can use the right terms. Have fun traveling!
